So a second lockdown has arrived which means another 4 weeks of no work for those of us in the beauty industry. However, in contrast since 15th August 2020, when beauty services were reopened and MUAs were allowed to take on clients, I have been SO busy which has made me really grateful for every job that has come my way.
I’ve had the pleasure of making up a handful of brides (most of my clients have postponed to 2021) as well as many shoots including a TV commercial with Bollywood royalty, Twinkle Khanna…more to come on this later!
One of the first brides I made up after the lockdown ceased in August was the beautiful Uresha. Uresha was due to get married at the end of April but because of the first lockdown, her wedding, like thousands across the country, was postponed.
As devastating as it was that she had to postpone her special day she decided that there was no point waiting around and within a couple of weeks after lockdown had lifted she arranged her civil ceremony and asked me to do her airbrush make-up and hair.
Uresha doesn’t usually wear eyeshadow so I kept the eyes minimalistic with nude tones with some big lashes and the hair was kept natural with a soft beach wave.
Due to the restrictions it did mean that all the brides I have done over the last few months, including Uresha, were not able to come in to the studio for trials, but thanks to today’s technology we were able to have in-depth video consultations so I could help bring each of their visions to life. Luckily my newly refurbished studio is all set for a grand reopening once this second lockdown is lifted…roll on 2nd December!! Watch this space for some exclusive sneak pictures to come.
Besides the few wedding bookings I have also been doing several photoshoots, which you may have seen over on my Instagram. I won’t lie… my first shoot was difficult. I struggled working in PPE gear and I could barely see what I was doing through a visor.
I have a new found respect for any professional who wears this gear in their day to day job. Luckily I was able to easily adapt and now this has just become my new normal.
Here’s an image of me on set shooting a commercial with Bollywood royalty Twinkle Khanna during the pandemic in full PPE gear – visor, mask, gloves and even a boiler suit!
We even had COVID-19 tests done prior to the shoot to ensure maximum safety for everyone on set, as well as hygiene inspectors who regularly checked our temperature throughout the filming day.
There have also been some absolutely stunning shoots I worked on with Khush Magazine, but I’ll be writing about these shortly so stay tuned and don’t forget to subscribe and follow me on Instagram @GangaMakeup and Facebook GangaMakeupArtist.
